Torquing up the crank bolt

Today I finally got use of the special tool for torquing up the crankshaft bolt that I bought last year. Since I didn't have such a tool when I put the engine back together I just did the bolt as tight as I could without it, but today I disasembled everything again and did it properly.

Getting organized!

Since I do all my work on the Land Rover out in the communal parkinglot it is important to have an organized and effective means of transporting all the tools back and forth. I have now upgraded my toolboxes and gotten an foldable cart to transport them, works great :-)

It started!

In my previous post I wrote that I suspected the glowplugs to be faulty, but they were OK. The problem was air in the fuel lines. Last time I tried to bleed it using the lever on the lift pump as the manual says, but then I only got a very weak stream of diesel from the bleed screw. Today I tried cranking the engine instead. Since I work alone most of the time I have put together a remote starter button that connects to the starter so I can run it from the engine bay, quite practical :-) Anyway, after bleeding it the engine started.

It's spring time!

After a long winter it's finally spring :-) The Land rover has been parked and not started since October. When I tried to start it using the new battery I bought it refused. I suspect that there is some problem with the glowplugs as I couldn't feel any heat from them after almost a minute of pre-heating.
Well, at least I got something done today; I changed the fuel filter.
